Forged Iron spiral staircases offer ornate detail

Victorian, traditional, and country homes require a spiral stair with more texture and detail to enhance the setting. The Forged Iron Collection was designed to compliment these types of homes.

Just like the Classic Collection, begin by selecting the sleeve type and tread style. We offer a variety of specifically designed styles to maximize the ornate detail of the collection. Next, select the baluster type and pattern arrangement. Typically, the leading baluster that connects one tread to the next will be different from the center balusters. You may have as many as three different balusters working together to create a pattern and give you a custom feel. Salter offers five different forged iron baluster groupings for your consideration and design effort.

Add solid wood tread covers and a matching handrail to the Forged Iron Stair and you will create a beautiful staircase that will enhance your home.
Choose A Stair Design From The Following Options:
 
Tread Styles  
FIT-1 Long curved steel tread with closed ends. Holes are pre-punched so the tread can receive optional wood tread coverings.

FIT-2 Ivy stencil steel tread with closed ends. Holes are pre-punched so the tread can receive optional wood tread coverings.

FIT-3 Code riser steel tread with closed ends. Code risers will maintain a space less then 4" between treads. Holes are pre-punched so the tread can receive optional wood tread coverings.

  Tread Coverings

FITC-1 Diamond Pattern steel tread provides a non-skid surface. (Diamond pattern on tread top only)

FITC-2 Solid Wood tread covers in 11/16” or 1 3/4”, finished thickness. Treads are nosed and sanded to a fine finish. Oak, maple, cherry, mahogany, and cedar are stock woods with additional species available upon request.
 
 
Tread Sleeves  
FITS-1. Standard sleeves. The treads slide up and down on the center column. Each set of treads will fit a wide range of floor to floor heights.

FITS-2. Continuous sleeves. These Arecustom cut to your riser height. This feature provides a smooth center column appearance. (Please furnish your exact floor to floor height.).

A wonderful aspect of the Forged Iron Collection is the expandable baluster groupings. Salter offers five different forged iron baluster groupings for your consideration and design effort.You may have as many as three different balusters from a group working together to create a custom pattern and a beautiful staircase. (See the picture to the left)
Balusters & Tips - Forged Iron
FIBT-S. Standard Baluster Tip. The baluster tip is formed and adjustable to maintain a smooth transition to the handrail.

Each grouping is made up of coordinating balusters that work well together. Please choose up to three different balusters from a group to create a pattern.

Handrails
FIH-1. Pre-formed aluminum handrail -1 1/2" O.D. with dome end caps. This handrail may be left in its natural aluminum finish or painted the same color as the stair.

FIH-2. Pre-formed solid polished brass handrail - 1 1/2" O.D. with dome end caps.

FIH-3C. Solid Wood Bead and Finger Groove handrail - 3" tall. All wooden handrails are manufactured to your individual specifications and shipped in one piece. (Oak, Maple, Cherry, Mahogany, Cedar are stock woods with additional species available upon request.).
   

Handrail Caps
1. Standard aluminum dome cap

(Can be used at either end of the handrail).

Column Caps & Accessories  
1. Standard, continuous sleeve column extension top. Seamless welded steel top

8. Solid wood center column base plate cover. Used when the center column is mounted on top of a finished floor.

Well Enclosure Rails
Another consideration when purchasing a stair is the enclosure railing. This railing is intended to protect people from falling off a balcony or through a stair well. Although you may choose a stair with a wide baluster spacing, the balusters on the enclosure railing are spaced at 4" or less, which is what the national building code requires.

• This railing system is pre-welded to the required lengths.
• Optional, matching railing tops.

Classic well enclosure
Designer Style Railing  

• Straight and curved sections available.
• The individual railing parts are supplied loose and will need to be assembled on the job.
• Standard height is 36” tall with 42” tall available as a special order.
• Optional wood types are available upon request
• Six parts make up this system.
