Designer/Sales representative SCOTT LYLE did an amazing job for me! He stuck with me over 2.5 years as I decided on (and postponed) launching the stair project. He never lost my contact info and was extremely prompt in getting new design drawings to me and informing me of my... options. Ultimately, I opted for a powder-coated Al grating stair. Please hold onto SCOTT, because he is a huge asset for Saulter!I had read some bad Yelp reviews lurking around on the web. This made me a bit paranoid, but so far none have materialized. The stair reached me intact and undamaged. It is half assembled now and looks great! The only hick-up was that I live on a small road -- too big for the delivery trucks. I used my F-150 truck to pick it up at the delivery hub without issue. So smaller delivery trucks would be my only suggestion on improvement. Overall, I would highly recommend Saulter to my friends.read more

Easy to install stairs. I like the open air look and the speed on what I put them up. It is easier with 3 people. It took us 4 hours to complete the job. The only issue i found on the galvanized coating is there are some sharp areas from the dipping, but not terrible, but I may... ask for them to send me a new rail. The rest I am very happy with. It is very sturdy. The customer service is great.read more

While under construction, we had an interior stair that could not be grandfathered, or reconstructed using a compliant traditional stair. Our only option for a clients cabin was to use a spiral stair (not my first choice.) However, after doing my research, I contacted... Salter Spiral Stair and worked with the uber patient Kevin Reagan in sales, and their engineering department, and working together "virtually" we created a double helix for the cabin. I had my reservations that architecturally it would look "right", or that we could get the stair to structurally "fit" within the framing of a 35yr. old cabin, but, my skepticism was ill founded. Not only does the stair we selected look perfect for the Mountain Modern architecture of the space, it arrived well packed with no damage or parts missing, it is well made, easy to install, and overall looks incredible ! Instructions were thorough and easy to understand. Screws, washers, etc. were clearly labeled. Only problems encountered were with one of the treads not being powder coated, and several of the aluminum pieces not being drilled correctly; they had to be reamed/cleaned out for... use. I was online shopping for a spiral staircase. Came across a few options, I liked the selection and options Salters had. The first salesman I encountered was Andrew. I felt we had a difference of opinion and I wasn't to impressed. I gave them a second chance and was put into... the well capable hands of salesman Brett. I was amazed at how he was able to design exactly what I was looking for in no time. His professionalism was outstanding. Due to his efforts I proceeded with my order. The finished product looks amazing. I will say there were several issues with the quality control department of missing parts and holes not pre-drilled as the directions indicated. I was able to get in touch with customer service and they were eager to make things right. Although I spent more then anticipated due to not receiving the correct pieces, a flaw on Salters end. The finished product was better then anticipated. Although it was frustrating that a company that’s sole purpose is to design spiral staircases. I was amazed at the lack of items that were overlooked by the quality control department. However these stairs were not a custom job, they went by very simplified dimensions, so I would most CERTAINLY, recommend Salters products, but I have to say if it were not for the outstanding job of their customer service team and Brett my salesman, my outlook would differ. However you cannot discount the finished product and how the end result enhances any home project in adding a spiral staircase. In closing, do not hesitate to order from Salters they build a quality product at a fair price. Hopefully you get to experience a salesman as Brett Amoroso who takes pride in his job and goes the extra mile. We had a phenomenal experience with Dan at Salter Spiral. We seriously shopped about 20 pptions and businesses, but Dan was the 1st person who generated 3D models to meet our custom specs. He demoed via webinar the features that make the Salter stair superior to others in the... industry that only meet minimum standards. We needed over 13" floor-to-floor in an enclosed space. The custom stair they built us is fantastic. Having a custom engineered stair meant we did not need to measure each individual stair placement, saving hours and uncertainty. That box had unbelievable damage to it, luckily the stairs are well made and was not damaged, and no pieces missing, but the pole was heavily damaged on the end, I don’t... want to deal with getting a replacement. I’m hoping to use a hammer to try and reshape it so it can fit into the base.read more

Very happy with the product. After delivery I spread the parts out on the floor and could see it was going to be easy. You do need aleast two people but everything fits and you can go right by the directions. The design went well ( I go t what I asked for ). Delivery went well.... Driver helped with off load. Everything fit well and the end product is great. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that one of the set screw holes that lock the tread to the center post was not tapped. If you are assembling one of these check all the holes beforehand that way you can avoid disassembling... and reassembling just to tap a small hole. Overall the parts all fit together for a beautiful stair.read more

I was impressed with the initial design and quote process, the quick response to all of my questions both during and after delivery. The... stairs arrived a day earlier than promised, and were well packaged. The stairs are made of high quality materials the fit together perfectly. They are very sturdy, and the finished stair look great. I got two other quotes for comparable stairs. Salter was competitive on price, and superior on customer service. The only problem I had was one chipped oak tread and a set screw hole that wasn't tapped. Customer service send a replacement for the tread and paid for a tap to cut the threads for the set screw. I recommend Salter Spiral Stair without reservation.read more

Its a beautiful staircase, very solid. However, the railings that go around the opening were made 5/16" to long. They didn't compensate for the steel plate they added. They need to remake the railings. I will let you know how this goes. So....2-10-19, they remade the railings... and got one of them wrong, had to send it back still in the shop, waiting......customer service has been great, but slow..read more

Stairs arrived in good condition though box was beat up. Unpacking, I was immediately impressed with overall quality, fit and "heft" of the components. Was able to put platform and steps on the pole and raise in place by myself in about 2 hours. (Would recommend assistance if... not using some type of rope system to lift the assembly.) DESIGN and PLANNING - 5 Stars. They were very attentive to requests and details. It took us from Aug 22 til Aug 31 to handle all the specifics of the design and renderings...which were awesome! PRODUCTION - 1 Star. We were told to hurry our signing of the final documents so we... could secure a spot in production that would put us on a ship date that was about 6 weeks from the time of order (ship by Oct 19). Our order didn't actually ship until Nov 21 and we received it on Dec 6. This created a big problem in our scheduling with the people that were helping us install. INSTALLATION - 4 Stars. Our staircase is solid Hickory, so it is very strong wood and the installation screws that were provided, broke several times as they were being tightened into the wood. We had to get creative to remove them, but ended up purchasing some screws from the local box store and we had no problem after that. All components and pieces were cut and sized exactly as per the plan and that made the installation work wonderfully! FINAL PRODUCT - 5 Stars!!! We love the new staircase and despite the long wait time, would order from Salter, again! Their product is worth the wait!!! I will try to remember to post a photo, soon, we are awaiting the final staining.read more

The product is beautiful and a great looking addition to our decor.The problems with assembly were small but time consuming.I had to tap and drill holes for the Allen set screws in 2 places where the holes were not threaded or drilled through.Some of the hole had no threads... at all and those also had to be tapped.(6 total) The lack of timely response to pertinent questions was frustrating.Do not email questions .... call. Lack of communication when ordering an ancillary product was annoying and I would say that sales staff should have to follow an order from start to finish to see how frustrating it can be.( multiple requests for an arrival date went unanswered)I was seriously overcharged on the delivery fee and then they shipped it Fed-Ex anyway. (A rail was the product) The original stairway delivery was delayed and cost me money as I had to retain the installer until arrival.New Penn was not a good experience as they told me that I needed a forklift to get my product and the delivery was delayed a week until they could get a truck with a gate. Rude telephone guy at New Penn was not helpful at all. I recommend Salter as the product itself is great.read more

Great service. Responsive sales team, very good communication during planning, manufacturing and shipping. My only complaint is that Salter folks seem aware of all the code limitations with tread size, head clearance and staircase diameter, yet they sell them. We are having a... major issue with code and inspections on our new build. Have to remove the entire staircase. Which isn't entirely Salter's fault, however they could have advised us better as my Sales guy new it was a new build in the state of Michigan.read more

While they make a great product, they will charge you promptly, but they take several months to deliver, with very little updates as to when you can expect... your stair. We purchased the black powder coated aluminum spiral stairs. They are fantastic! One thing I think needs improvement is the way the handrail attaches to the balusters. The screws went in on an angle, which causes the head of the screw not to be flush. Other than that, I... would buy these again if needed and also recommend them!read more

The planning and details of the stairs was incredible and everything pieced together perfectly on site. The only negative was the shipping of the unit, which was delayed a week by being misdirected by the shipping company. Otherwise we are extremely impressed by the product.

We found the buying process very easy. Our sales engineer called and we set up a remote computer session and he was able to engineer a staircase that fit both our budget and our taste. The fabrication was done on time, and probably early. We are somewhat local to their HQ,... so we saved some money by picking them up ourselves. When we were unpacked the boxes, everything was there. We again saved some money by getting the steel stairs and treating them with Rust-Oleum ourselves. East to do. I would have liked to have better instructions, as there wasn't really much to go on, but we figured it out over the course of a day. A YouTube channel would be ideal, as I had a hard time getting much detailed instructions . All in all, we got through and the stairs are great. I would recommend thetting the ones that are premade to set up automatically, rather than.having to measure and level each one. The comapny itself was responsive from the first chat I did online at theri website, all through the buying process, and post sale . I would highly recommend this company for a purchase.read more

I have read the negative reviews and must provide a totally positive review. I have nothing but good experiences with Salter, and their staircase. I ordered my all steel, black staircase some years ago, about 2012. The parts arrived on time, but the central post was creased... (obviously from being rolled on a edge with heavy weight on top during shipping) and had a slight bend. I took a photo, contacted the company and we discussed replace, or use. Salter decided replacement was in order, and sent me another central post. A few weeks later, the staircase was complete.Move ahead to the summer of 2017, the staircase started getting noisy. I discovered some hardware (screws and such) had rattled out, and fallen away. I could not located the missing hardware. I contacted the company, and asked them to sell me a small collection of hardware. Instead, I received, without charge, a box filled with prepacked hardware sets.In my case, I communicated with Sal, who has always made every right. I can give a 4 for now as we haven't done the install yet due to tough permit reviewer but I was very impressed with Salter customer service who sent shop drawings right out to assist in this process. I am pretty sure I can come back to give a 5 noting how well packed and good... condition everything arrived. Can't wait to get completion on this!read more

How cool, I love my spiral stairs!. Salter Spiral Stair supported this project from beginning to end. They walked me through the design process with insight and experienced advice. This should have gone in like butter but the contractor didn't look at the directions and first... put the stair in backwards! The people at Salter were very understanding and extremely helpful working with me to make it right. I've had very many compliments on my new stairs! They are beautiful, safe and (if you follow the directions) easy peasy.read more

The company was very helpful during design, allowing me to customize elements of the stair including adding a wooden handrail to match the wood species of the stair treads. The representative assisted my contractor in a conference call to answer their installation questions. ... The stair was shipped as a kit of parts that was easy to install. Suggestions for improvements include: better cleaning of the metal before powder coating would eliminate imperfections in the finish that we solved with touch-up paint, delivery service did not allow us to inspect the stair before accepting delivery.read more

Easy to install, good quality. We needed a spiral stair for a home in the caribbean and wanted a kit. Send the measurements for the custom spiral to Salter. This spiral went from one upper deck to a higher deck, so did not start on the ground. The manufactured it the way we... wanted, shipped to caribbean and then we assembled. Had one small minor error that was easily fixed. Two handy people can assemble. Hardest part is expanding the hand rail without any kinks, but we managed to do it. Would buy from them again.read more

I created a photo studio in a commercial space that had a loft storage area that I wanted to use for both a secondary shooting space and a lounge. When I took over the space, the only way up to the loft was a vertical ladder of planks of playwood screwed to the wall. In planning... out the space, it became apparent that a spiral staircase was the most efficient use of space.Everyone I spoke with at Salter was helpful and worked with me on my budget and timing needs to get me exactly what I wanted. The staircase pieces arrived on time, and though the box had been a bit crushed in the shipping, the pieces inside weren't damaged, and there was no need for any replacements.The pieces were solidly built and quite heavy. Construction took much longer than anticipated (story of everyone's life in remodeling, right?), and the stairs were one of the last things to go in. So as construction was happening, I had to move all the pieces several times around the place to get them out of the way. Good workout.My only negative, really, is that the instructions could have been so much better. We did eventually figure things out, but it had not been apparent from the start that each center baluster (on my staircase, there were two center balusters for each tread) was going to have to be cut to length. On my stair, that meant cutting 16 steel bars to length. Though I had been told that a couple of reasonably competent people could do it in a day, I called in my contractors who had power saws to help out. And it was an enormous help...until one baluster was cut way too short.And then Salter came to the rescue. For what I thought was going to be a $100 mistake on our part, Salter generously sent us a replacement baluster free of charge. That was above and beyond and cemented Salter in my mind as a company I would absolutely recommend.Certain other parts of the assembly are challenging, to be sure -- uncoiling the aluminum handrail, especially in a cramped space (the reason we got a spiral in the first place) was nerve-racking to do the first time -- the thing sure doesn't seem like it will uncoil smoothly, but for the most part it did.Best of all, the staircase looks AMAZING. Everyone who sees it admires it, and it's now one of the shooting locations in the studio.I have heard that better instructions were being drafted after we received our staircase, so that's good. But overall it was a great experience, and the results are stunning.read more

They take your photos and dimensions, then present a graphic on your screen, allowing you to choose and see... just where the top landing is positioned and where the bottom tread is oriented within a detailed drawing of your own room. High quality steel, precise fabrication and clean finishes set them apart. My package came on time, with no missing pieces, and fit together precisely. My buddy was helping me, and by the end of the day he was ready to buy a Salter staircase for his deck at home.read more

We had a 2 story stacked log home built started in August 2015. We added a 300 sq. ft. loft to the plan above our bedroom. We needed a way to access that loft & that is when I found Salter's Spiral Stair website. Sent an email asking for pricing & info. Received a call back... immediately & was put in contact with a designer. He requested a few measurements & had some questions he needed answered. A week later he called & set up on line/phone meeting to go over the plans. Awesome way to explain their product & what he had designed. Was impressed so ordered the stairs. We live in Saskatchewan so we had the stairs shipped to a parcel pick up in North Dakota & we went & picked them up there to save on some shipping costs. Everything went smoothly & we didn't have to pay any Duty only taxes at the border as the stairs were made in USA (NAFTA). I had the log home builder help my wife & I install the stairs as it was a little tricky attaching the stairs to a stacked log wall which is expected to shrink about 4" over a 5 year period. Turned out better than I ever dreamed it would. High quality construction, easy to install, prompt courteous service. Thank you & would recommend this stair to anyone !read more
