DELIVERY CHARGES
Salter’s stairs are delivered by licensed interstate common carriers to the address of your choice. Their charges are federally regulated, and are based on the location of the delivery and the weight of the shipment. The carrier will call approximately 24 hours in advance to arrange for the delivery and also will indicate the exact cost of the delivery. The freight charges are not included in the cost of your stair purchase and you will need to pay the freight company for their services at the time of delivery. The freight company may charge a residential delivery fee, phone notification fee and fuel surcharge. Salter’s has negotiated a 50% freight discount for the merchandise that we ship. This discount is not guaranteed in all parts of the United States but it does cover about 95% of the country. Look for this discount on the invoice before you pay the driver.

CHARGES TO AVOID
If the freight company attempts to deliver your merchandise at a prearranged time and no one is home, you may be charged for the re-delivery.
When the freight company notifies you that they have your merchandise, you should promptly return the call and set up the delivery. If the freight company does not get in contact with you in a few days, they may place your merchandise into storage and begin to charge you for this service.

DELIVERY INSURANCE
The merchandise that is shipped through the common carrier is automatically insured against loss or damage. To maintain this insurance, it is the responsibility of the customer or their agent that is receiving the merchandise to open and inspect all the materials with the driver present. When you sign the delivery receipt, you are telling the freight company that the merchandise was received in good condition. At that point the freight company is no longer responsible. Again, you must open every box and remove the handrail from its packaging and make sure that nothing is damaged.

IF DAMAGE IS FOUND
If a damaged part is found or a part is missing when you are inspecting the shipment, accept the delivery and write a short description of the damage or missing item on all the copies of the drivers delivery receipt. After the driver has left, call Salter’s and we will promptly replace that item free of charge. If you or your agent do not inspect the merchandise with the driver present and damage is discovered, neither Salter’s nor the freight company will be held responsible.
